Located 1 kilometer west of the Istrian coast, opposite the town of Fažana, consists of 14 islands (the two largest: Veliki Brijun 7 km² and Mali Brijun 1.7 km²) and islets with a total area of 33.9 km². With its Mediterranean vegetation and numerous cultural and historical remains, it was declared a national park in 1983.
